It can be hard to determine which thermometer is best for your family. What you need to know about thermometers is here.
Different types of thermometers
There are two basic types of thermometers.
To take a temperature reading, thermometers must make contact with the body. Remote thermometers, or no-contact thermometers, can take the body's temperature without contacting the skin.
Thermometers that operate remotely
Numerous schools, businesses, and health care facilities conduct fever screenings on visitors. People can remain further apart when using a remote thermometer that does not require skin contact. Remote thermometers are typically worn on the forehead (temporal artery) or the ear (tympanic).
Thermometers for the temporal artery
Remote forehead thermometers monitor the temperature of the temporal artery in the forehead using an infrared scanner.
Thermometers made of mercury
Once a common fixture in most medical cabinets, Mercury thermometers employ mercury enclosed in glass to determine body temperature. Mercury thermometers are no longer advised due to the possibility of them breaking and allowing hazardous mercury to escape.
Children don’t like thermometers. Don’t worry though, as we have got you covered. Try out these non-contact thermometers. One of the most trending and selling products, the infrared thermometers, are non-contact devices. They can easily measure temperature from a distance of 12 inches.
